The Early Years:

I love to say I began writing at an early age and always dreamed of becoming a real, live author. Actually, it never occurred to me that I could become an author. I had a terrible time learning to read. I was that kid that drives teachers CRAZY. I spent my school day being the funny girl, and getting into trouble, so that no one would realize that I couldn't read.

Even though I struggled to read, I loved books. I loved how they looked, and how they felt, and how they smelled. I loved going to the library, and I loved to be read to.

The Middle Years:

I grew up in central Indiana. I was the youngest of three fashion conscious girls. We were the only girls in the neighborhood and spent our days with the boys playing army, riding bikes, and climbing trees (my favorite place to read a book).

The After That Years:

I graduated from college and became a school librarian - the best job ever!

In my spare time, I began writing stories for my students.

Even back in Indiana, I wanted to be a cowgirl.  FINALLY, fourteen years ago, my family moved to Texas!

And now I'm lucky enough to be a full-time author.
I get to write books,
read books,
and go to schools and talk to children about books.
I have the best job ever!
